Swing-N-Slide wooden swing sets, slides and swing seats for the backyard

We have been cutting lumber, bending steel and bagging hardware for backyard play sets since 1985. Pick a whole play set, a single wave slide or the swing seats that bring an old frame back to life — every piece on this site is ours, and every piece is built to be climbed on.

What we build into every set

Tested safe

Each play set and attachment is tested against the ASTM standard for backyard residential play before it leaves us.

Coated chains

Our swing chains wear a soft plastisol coat, so small hands never meet bare steel and the links will not rust shut.

Lumber in the box

A whole set arrives with the wood, the hardware and the illustrated plans — you supply the yard, the tools and a free weekend.

Built to be added to

Deck heights, beam brackets and swing hangers share dimensions across our line, so a set you buy today can grow next summer.

On the workbench this week

A whole play set, a slide, a swing seat and a bundle — two of each, so you can see what a complete set costs next to the pieces that upgrade an old frame.

What makes a Swing-N-Slide set different

We design around the part that gets used hardest. The beam, the hangers and the slide bed carry the load, so those are the parts we over-build and the parts we publish numbers for.

  • Weight limit printed on every swing seat and stated in the specifications, not buried in a manual
  • One-piece and two-piece slide beds moulded from UV-stable polyethylene that keeps its colour
  • Pre-cut, pre-drilled lumber on complete sets, so assembly is bolting rather than carpentry
  • Attachments sized to standard 4 and 5 foot deck heights, whoever built the frame

My niece calls it her "house"

You will definitely need more than one person to put this together. It took my brother and I at little more than 7 hours to put it together. I love the fact that there are so many little ways you can modify it to make it your own it its unique way. Only draw back and this may just be because my niece is little we have to be next to her while she rides the slides..she will fly right off them because she is so light.

Great hanger

Hangers worked out great for placing a swing on our deck for our daughter. The hanger is quiet to begin with, but I also placed a dab of lithium grease on it to ensure smooth, quiet rotation. We drilled the holes for the bolts through a 6x6 and it holds my weight fine, as it should, but I weight approximately 190 lbs., it is rated for much higher. Been in the weather for at least 2 months and no visable rust.

Swinging good time

It was time for new swings for our set. These came in at the right price and the right colors. Arrived earlier than expected and are very nice and durable. We already had the hardware to attach them to our set, it does not come with them FYI. The bar swing was a little tricky to instal and had to alter it slightly to work for us but it wouldn't detour me from purchasing the set again if I need it.

Kids love this

It's super easy to assemble. The kids love it & 2 can fit easily on it. It holds up to 200 pounds. The mesh allows for rain to go through it & still sturdy enough to hold kids. Comes with everything except the eyehooks that screw into the wood above. The silver clips latch right into your screwed in eye hooks. Great buy & very happy with it. Would definitely buy again & recommend to friends.

Great quality. I like the option of the wood in addition to the rope netting

This fit perfectly onto our swingsest which needed a new cargo net. it came with the appropriate hardware, took next to no time to put onto swingset. my son loves it. it is great quality. I like the option of the wood in addition to the rope netting. My son enjoys this very much. I took a chance on it not knowing if it would fit or work with our very very old swingset and I am so glad I did.

Great product

This is a great item. We built a swing/play set for the grandchild over a year ago using this slide. She loves sliding down and climbing back up. We have had to take it off a time of two due to severe storms so it would not take flight. It has reinstalled nicely each time and she loves to have it back together each time. The product has retained its color and shape nicely.

Pick by the space you have

Small yards

A compact A-frame with two swings and a wave slide fits a 20 by 20 foot safety zone and still gives kids a real ride.

Swings

Room to spread out

Towers with monkey bars, a climbing wall and two slides want about 30 by 30 feet of clear, level ground.

Swing Sets

Already have a frame

Swap tired seats, add a glider or bolt on a tube slide — the hardware is sized to the beams you already own.

Wooden swing sets for the backyard, start to finish

Who we are and what we build

Swing-N-Slide started in a Wisconsin lumber town, and the habit stuck: we still think about a play set the way a builder thinks about a deck. Posts, beams, brackets, fasteners, and only then the fun part. That order is why our complete play sets arrive as a crate of pre-cut, pre-drilled lumber rather than a flat sheet of instructions and a wish. You are bolting a frame together, not milling one.

The line splits into two halves. On one side are whole play sets — towers with wood roofs, climbing walls, picnic tables, monkey bars and one or two slides, the kind of outdoor play structure a family builds once and uses for a decade. On the other side are the parts: swing seats, gliders, nest swings, wave slides, tube slides, see saws, telescopes, ground anchors and the hardware kit you need when you want to cut your own lumber. Both halves share the same dimensions, so a part bought this year fits a frame built years ago.

Everything on this site is ours. We do not resell other makers, and we do not pad the catalogue with look-alikes. If you are looking at a page here, we drew it, tested it and put our name on the box.

Choosing a play set for your yard

Start with ground, not with the set. Measure the flattest rectangle you have and subtract six feet of clear space on every side — that safety zone is the single number that decides which play set will actually work. A compact swing set with two swings and a slide wants roughly twenty by twenty feet. A tower with two slides, a climbing wall and a glider wants closer to thirty by thirty.

Then decide how many people will be on it at once. Our swing seats carry a stated weight limit, and the limit is per seat, not per set: a two-seat beam holds two riders of that weight, and the nest swing holds up to three smaller children. Nothing varies here by guesswork — the numbers live in the specifications on every page, in pounds, so you can check before you purchase rather than after.

Deck height is the last measurement, and it matters more than it sounds. Our slides come sized for four foot and five foot decks. An eight foot wave slide wants a four foot deck; a nine foot wave slide and the five foot turbo tube slide want a five foot deck. Mount a slide on the wrong height and the exit angle goes wrong, which is the fastest way to turn a good slide into a hard landing.

Assembly, in plain hours

A complete play set is a two-person, two-day job for most families. Plan on six to ten hours of real work for a mid-size tower, more if you are also levelling ground. The estimated time on a box assumes two adults, a cordless drill, a socket set, a level and a tape measure, and it assumes you have already sorted the hardware bags before you start. Sorting first saves an hour; we have watched enough builds to be sure of it.

Attachments are much lighter work. A swing seat with coated chains and quick links is a ten minute job on an existing beam. A ladder, a climbing wall or a set of monkey bars runs under an hour. A tube slide takes two people simply because the sections are awkward, not because the assembly is hard.

Ground anchors go in last and they are not optional. A wooden swing set is heavy, but a kid standing up on a swing generates more lift than the weight of the frame suggests. Four anchors, driven at the legs, keep the whole thing honest.

Living with it, season after season

Wood moves. Within the first year the lumber in a new set will shrink, swell and settle, and bolts that were tight in June will have a quarter turn of slack by the following spring. Walk the set every season with a socket wrench, check the swing hangers for wear, and look at the chains where they pass through the hanger — that is where steel meets steel and where wear shows first.

Plastic parts are simpler. Slide beds and seats are moulded from UV-stable polyethylene and want nothing but soap and water. Canopies are the one part that ages on a schedule; a vinyl roof in full sun is a consumable, and we sell replacements because we would rather you swap a canopy than a set.

What you put under the set matters as much as the set itself. Grass compacts into something close to concrete under a swing. Engineered wood fibre, rubber mulch or pea gravel, nine inches deep and raked back into the hollows a few times a season, is what turns a fall into a non-event.

Buying from us

Each page here carries the current price, the stated specifications and the real customer reviews we were able to collect, and the button takes you straight to the listing where the purchase happens. We keep the information on the page honest about what is in the box and what is not — the hardware kits, for example, are hardware only, and the wood is not included, which is exactly the point if you have a sawmill nearby and a weekend to spend.

Stock varies. Colours sell through at different speeds, and a yellow seat can be gone while the green one sits. If a page shows a piece as unavailable, it is worth looking at the rest of the colour run rather than waiting, because the moulding is identical.

We would love to hear how a set turned out. Write to us at the address in the footer with a photo and the model, and tell us what you would change — a surprising number of the small fixes in our current line started as a note from somebody who had just spent a weekend on their knees in the grass.

A word on what we can and cannot do for a customer from here. We hold the product information: dimensions, weight limits, the minimum and maximum ages a piece is designed for, which hardware is applicable to which beam, and what a replacement part is called. We do not hold orders. If you need a delivery date changed or a return started, that lives with the store you bought from, and the order page of that store is where it gets done in the fastest hours of anybody's day.

Estimated assembly time varies with the set, the helper and the ground. A slide or a ladder is an afternoon. A small A-frame playset is most of a Saturday. The large towers with two slides and a climbing wall are a two-day job for two adults, and the estimate on each page assumes you are bolting rather than improvising. Read the page before you buy the lumber, and you will know which weekend to clear.

Questions we get asked

Is it cheaper to buy or build a swing set?

Buying a complete kit is almost always cheaper once you count your own time. The lumber in our sets is pre-cut and pre-drilled, which removes the expensive part of a self-build: waste, mistakes and a second trip to the yard. Building from scratch only wins if you already have the lumber, the tools and the patience, and that is exactly the case our hardware kits are made for.

What type of wood is best for an outdoor swing set?

Anything that will sit in wet grass for ten years and not rot. We build with treated softwood and with cedar, depending on the model. Cedar resists weather naturally and silvers gracefully; treated lumber is tougher per pound and costs less. Both want a seasonal look-over rather than a yearly coat of anything.

How long do wooden swing sets last?

A decade is normal and fifteen years is common if the set is anchored, the ground drains and someone tightens the bolts each spring. The parts that age out first are the ones you can replace: swing seats, chains, canopies and the plastic handles.

How do you anchor a swing set?

Four ground anchors, one at each leg, driven at an angle away from the frame and bolted through. On level ground that is enough. On a slope, level the ground first — shimming legs transfers load into the frame in ways the design does not expect.

What should you put around a swing set?

A soft surface, at least nine inches deep, extending six feet past the structure in every direction and further in front of a slide exit. Engineered wood fibre, rubber mulch and pea gravel all work. Grass, bare soil and anything hard do not.

Can I add a swing or a slide to a set I already own?

Usually, yes. Our attachments are sized to standard four and five foot deck heights and to standard beam widths, and the swing hangers fit wooden beams of the usual dimensions. Measure your deck height and your beam before you order, and check the weight limit of the beam you are hanging from.
