The part that wears out first

A swing seat is the part of a play set that wears out first and the cheapest part to make right. Ours come with the chain already attached and coated in soft plastisol, which keeps fingers off bare steel and stops the links rusting into a solid bar. Quick links at the top mean hanging a seat is a ten minute job with one wrench.

Pick by rider and by use

Pick by rider and by use. A belt seat suits any child who can hold on. A full bucket seat with a harness holds a toddler safely up to its stated limit. A glider seats two facing each other and teaches rhythm faster than anything else in the yard. A nest swing holds up to three smaller kids at once and is the one that gets fought over. Ring-and-trapeze bars add upper-body play to a beam that already has seats on it.

Hanging height and chain length

Hanging height matters. Most of our seats come with chains long enough for a standard beam, with adjustment at the quick link. Leave enough clearance under the seat for a seated rider's feet and enough in front and behind for the full arc — twice the chain length is the rule of thumb.

Pick by the space you have

Small yards

A compact A-frame with two swings and a wave slide fits a 20 by 20 foot safety zone and still gives kids a real ride.

Swings

Room to spread out

Towers with monkey bars, a climbing wall and two slides want about 30 by 30 feet of clear, level ground.

Swing Sets

Already have a frame

Swap tired seats, add a glider or bolt on a tube slide — the hardware is sized to the beams you already own.

Questions about this shelf

Will these chains fit my existing hangers?

Quick links open to fit standard swing hangers. If your hangers are worn, replace them at the same time — that is where wear always shows first.

What weight can a swing seat take?

Each seat carries its own rating in lbs on its page. Toddler bucket seats are rated lowest, extreme-duty seats highest.
